Yesterday we had a school assembly to celebrate the Dia de Encuentro (Columbus Day). The younger grades dressed up in costumes and performed skits, sang songs, and recited poetry to celebrate the day that Christopher Columbus discovered Costa Rica.
My third grade class dressed up as Indians and Spaniards. 
The first grade class had a variety of costumes.

The costumes were a mixture of the four largest people groups in Costa Rica: Indigenous people, Spaniards, Chinese, and Africans.
The sixth grade put on a skit, depicting Christopher Columbus coming to America.
The fifth graders recited a poem.
The second and third graders singing a song about America.
The second and third grade girls dressed up as Indians and did a dance.
