Hanging out with Family

During my final week of July break, Adam and Hope were able to come down for a visit. It was really great getting to spend time with them, and we had fun taking a few short trips. We met up with the O'Neills in San Jose for lunch one day, toured San Jose, took a bus to Nicaragua, visited the Cafe Brit Coffee Plantation, traveled to the Caribbean, and went to a Costa Rican soccer game. Some of the things we learned during our trip were that Managua is not a very tourist-friendly city, Grenada is the place to go, the cheese in Nicaragua tastes even worse than the cheese in Costa Rica, Lake Nicaragua is the only fresh water lake in the world where sharks live (don't worry; we didn't go swimming there), the Caribbean is a great place to visit, the rice and beans there are delicious, and if you ask for a Coca-Cola to go, they will put it in a plastic bag with a straw for you. Here's a few of the pictures from our trip.

We took a trip to Playa Cahuita on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica.

Really good rice and beans cooked in coconut milk

We took a tour of the Cafe Brit coffee plantation in San Jose. Cafe Brit is my favorite kind of coffee down here.

Last Saturday, we headed over to Cartago for a Costa Rican soccer game between La Liga and Heredia. Unfortunately the team that Hope and I were going for lost 1-0, but it was still a fun night. We almost got to see a few fights break out between the fans from both teams, but fortunately Heredia brought plenty of police officers along with them.
